FA Still Expected to Come Up with Ruling on Daniel Sturridge’s Gambling Rules Breach Case

According to media reports, the Football Association (FA) has found the Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge guilty of violating gambling rules for placing bets on football after the winter transfer window in January 2018 opened.

Despite the fact that the professional football player has denied the charges, the governing body of association football in England still found him guilty of misconduct and violation of the above-mentioned rules. As information previously emerged, the 29-year-old football player has been hit with the charge for placing bets of players and managers transfers by using a third party to do this.

Rumour has it that the striker could be facing a lengthy ban that could end his career in professional football, as well as a massive fine. However, the actual penalty faced by the player would remain unknown until the seriousness of his violations is officially unveiled.

Previously, a statement saying that Sturridge categorically denies the charges was released by a spokesman of Liverpool FC. The player was given the opportunity to respond to the impending charge until 6:00 PM on November 20th. Then, surprisingly, the player has asked the Football Association to give him more time to respond to the charges for alleged breaches of the FA betting rules at the beginning of 2018. At the time when that happened, it became clear that an extension is likely to be granted to Sturridge but it was yet to be determined how much additional time would he get in case that the FA decided to grant his plea.

Two FA Rules Allegedly Breached by Daniel Sturridge

Allegedly, Daniel Sturridge broke Rule E8(1)(a)(ii) and Rule E8(1)(b) of the FA in January 2018.

The two rules are related to the ban imposed by the Football Association on professional football players to participate in any way in gambling on the game and to provide third parties with any information regarding games, players and managers transfers, as well as any other sensitive information about the game and the club.

As mentioned above, Sturridge faced allegations of misconduct for betting on football and revealing internal information which he had been able to obtain “by virtue of his position” and which had not been publicly available at the time.

Still, no official statement has been issued by the FA on the case. Previously, a spokesman for Liverpool FC revealed that the player has provided his “full and unequivocal cooperation” on the matter and also shared Sturridge’s claims that he had never gambled on football.

Currently, FA rules fully suspend football players from betting on any matter associated with football. As mentioned above, professional football players are also not allowed to pass any internal information acquired because of their position to third parties in order for this information to be used while a bet is placed.
